God's unchanging nature

"'Yet,' says Moses, 'though we are always changing, Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place throughout all generations.'

The Christian knows no change with regard to God. He may be rich to-day and poor to-morrow; he may be sickly to-day and well to-morrow; he may be in happiness to-day, to-morrow he may be distressed—but there is no change with regard to his relationship to God. If He loved me yesterday, He loves me to-day. My unmoving mansion of rest is my blessed Lord. Let prospects be blighted; let hopes be blasted; let joy be withered; let mildews destroy everything; I have lost nothing of what I have in God. He is 'my strong habitation whereunto I can continually resort.' I am a pilgrim in the world, but at home in my God. In the earth I wander, but in God I dwell in a quiet habitation."

God is our refuge; though our lives and our circumstances change, the people around us come and go, we change location, He gives or takes away, He is still God! He is our portion and should be the fountain of our joy. We should be so content to just abide in Christ and not ponder the cares of this world. If only I could learn this with God's help!

Sickness

To think that my frequent ailments come by chance through the education industry is one hypothesis, though I think an incorrect one. To believe and know that they are a appointed by my Heavenly Father is another. I can wonder why I often fall sick and reason through a box of tissues that my illness is a result of XYZ cause. I also often wish away my illness and complain about it, but something that I read today challenged my soul.

"I bear my witness that the worst days I have ever had have turned out to be my best days. And when God seemed most cruel to me, he has then been most kind. If there is anything in this world for which I would bless him more than for anything else, it is for pain and affliction. I am sure that in these things the richest, tenderest love has been manifested to me. Our Father's wagons rumble most heavily when they are bringing us the richest freight of the bullion of his grace. Love letters from heaven are often sent in black-edged envelopes. The cloud that is black with horror is big with mercy. Fear not the storm. It brings healing in its wings, and when Jesus is with you in the vessel, the tempest only hastens the ship to its desired haven."
"Suffering"
from 2200 Quotations by Charles H. Spurgeon

I have most keenly seen God's faithfulness to me in times of trial and sickness, but admit I do not have the apparent faith of Spurgeon. Even as I write this post, I think I would have been running around doing something else if I could better move, rather than pour over God's word and the writings of those He uses to build our faith.

Nope, not Nazareth in Israel, but the comedian of the same name. Enjoy a bit of his comedy for a Friday laugh.

A life

"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."
Psalm 139:13-16 ESV
It seems to me there is a lot of talk about pro-choice and pro-life matters these days in the midst of the primary elections. It's difficult to hear anyone say that pro-choice is anything but pro-death, or pro-abortion, or pro-murder. That may sound a bit harsh, but reference what God says about a life and its value. God inspired David to pen these words, clearly remarking that as God fashioned him in his mother's womb, the years of his life were already planned by God before David was even conceived.
I find this an especially interesting topic as I am expecting a niece or nephew in the next few weeks. I have felt this baby rumble around in my sister's womb. I can clearly see a picture of him/her and observe the same features that newborns have. I can hear its heart beating and watch it move and suck its thumb through an ultrasound. Now, how can anyone say that it is not killing to take an unborn life?
